FOR X2

Fully Automatic Machine For Assembling Picture Frames

FOR X2

New version of FOR X, FOR X2 is a fully automatic, numerically controlled machine for the simultaneous assembly of the 4 corners of the wooden frames or similar materials, using steel staples. An industrial PC manages every function.
The machine is equipped with N. 10 controlled axes, driven by Brushless motors, N.10 DC servo drives for services and many I/Os. Through a 12.1” Touch Screen Color Panel you can control any manual or automatic movement of the machine, set and check the operation of all the processing phases.
FOR X2 works very quickly, unattended, permitting production costs to be cut. The operator intervention is limited to loading of the pieces to be processed and the unloading of the finished frames.
Time requested to perform these operations does not represent more than 10-20% of the machine’s operating time (depending on frames dimensions).

The machine is equipped with 2 automated warehouses for the work pieces.
When the first one is in the working area, the other one can be moved and rotated to be easily loaded in total safety. Once loaded, re-positioned, and with the safety guard closed, the transfer will be allowed to pick up the pieces also from this one. In normal operation the capacity of one of the two warehouses has a range of about 6 minutes.
The machine has 4 joining stations, each one is provided with a square to support the pieces, an adjustable clamp and the crimping group with its staples feeder with a range of about 2 hours. The the crimping group is driven by a Brushless motor. By control panel you can set and memorize positions and quantity of the staples to be inserted.FOR X2 has three transfers: the first (I) picks up the pieces with suction cups from the warehouse to the working area, the second (II) grabs the assembled product places it on the unloading conveyor, the third (III) transports them to the outfeed. The transfers speed is adjustable up to 2 m/s. This ensures the pieces transfer in a very short time.

Work Phases

a – Transfer I, pick up the four work pieces with the controlled axes (x, z) from one of the two warehouses and place the in the working area. The pieces in the warehouse, are already positioned to form the frame, with the faces to be joined at a distance of about 5 mm between them.

b – The transfer with the z axis movement, lowers the four pieces in the crimping area

c – locking of the 4 pieces of frame against the squares

d – the upper clamps secure the frame and the crimping units perform the joining

e – clamps and squares return to rest position, the four crimping units draw back and transfer II grabs the assembled frame and place it on the underlying conveyor belt. This one will bring the product to the unload warehouse. As soon as the working area is freed, transfer I will immediately place four new pieces to be joined.

f – at the end of the conveyor belt the frame is raised (transfer III) with a suction system up to the next station, where four pads controlled by rotating cylinders provide the final touch to the color of the corners.

g – subsequently, the frame is further raised and transferred (transfer III) to one of the two self-moving unloading warehouses.

h – The finished frames are laid one on top of the other and alternately rotated 90°, in this way the stack is more stable and it prevents the staples from scratching the frame below. When one of the warehouse is full (a flashing light will notify it a few minutes before it happens) the transfer will automatically put the pieces on the other.

With FOR X2 changing size is very simple and can be done in few minutes:

1) Set the frame dimensions on the control panel

2) adjust the loading warehouse guides

3) adjust the suction cups position

4) adjust the clamps position

5) enter the staples quantity and positions on the control panel

6) adjust the the “final touches” pads position
